Shelf Scanning Is Live: Earn While You Shop
Shelf scanning is now live in Crush Rewards. Take a quick photo of store shelves and price tags while you shop, no purchase required, and earn rewards that stack with your receipts and linked cards.
Product Updates
No purchase. No receipt. Just a quick photo of the shelf.
Shelf scanning is a new way to earn in Crush Rewards. If you're already in the store, you can pick up extra rewards without buying anything. Snap a product shelf, get approved, and it counts toward your next payout.
It stacks with the ways you already earn: receipt scans and linked cards. Same shopping trip, more of it counting toward rewards you actually own.
What shelf scanning is
Shelf scanning is simple. You take a photo of products on a store shelf, including the price tags. Crush uses that photo to see what's on the shelf and what it costs. When your capture is approved, it adds to your rewards.
Think of it as a bonus layer on top of your usual habit. You still scan receipts after checkout. You still earn automatically when a linked card rings up a purchase. Shelf scanning is the in-between: earn while you're still walking the aisles.
The short version:
- No purchase required: you don't need to buy anything for a shelf scan to count
- No receipt required: this is separate from receipt scanning
- Paid with your regular rewards: approved scans add to your balance at the next payout
- Stacks with everything else: receipts, cards, multipliers, and streaks all still apply
How to try it
- Update the app so you have the latest Crush Rewards build
- Open Scan from the home tab (or tap the new shelf card if you see it)
- Choose Shelf instead of Receipt
- Share location when asked so we can find a supported store near you
- Pick your store and an aisle from the list of aisles we want scans for that day
- Line up the shelf and tap once. Frame a few products with their price tags visible
- Wait for the result. Approved scans go toward your next payout. If something needs a second look, we'll review it
A typical session is a handful of scans through one or two aisles. Each good capture takes seconds, not minutes.
Tips for captures that get approved
Good photos get rewarded. Blurry, empty, or off-target shots don't.
Do this:
- Get a few products in one shot, close enough to read the labels
- Frame a full shelf section, not the whole aisle from across the store
- Include the shelf price tag. Prices are read from the photo
- Turn on the flash in dim aisles
- Hold steady so the image stays sharp
Skip these:
- Screens or printed photos of shelves
- Empty shelves or back-stock areas
- Single-product close-ups with nothing else in frame
- Shelves from a different store than the one you picked
You're already in the store. A clear shelf photo is usually enough.
Where it works
Shelf scanning is available at supported retailers near you. Open the flow and the app shows stores in range, plus which aisles are open for scans today.
Coverage is growing. If you don't see a store near you yet, check back or send us an email at support@crushrewards.app to request a location.. When a store shows up, the home card can surface it with distance so you know a scan trip is worth it.
If you're mid-shop at a supported store, that's the ideal moment. Open Crush, pick Shelf, and grab a few captures before you head to checkout. Then scan your receipt as usual.
How rewards work
Approved shelf scans add volume toward your regular reward cycle. You don't get a separate mystery currency. It feeds the same Crush balance you already use: rewards that live in your wallet, don't expire, and stay under your control.
Shelf scans can earn more per action than a single receipt line, because each capture is denser data. Receipts still tend to dominate a full shopping trip because one receipt covers many items. The practical move is both: shelves while you shop, receipt when you're done.
Your multiplier, streaks, and other bonuses still apply to the activity that feeds your payout. Shelf scanning is another way to stay active and grow what you earn from the same habits. For a full breakdown of how earning and payouts work, see the latest Crush Rewards features.
Why we built this
Most rewards apps only pay you after you buy. That's useful, but it's only one moment in the trip.
Shelf scanning pays you for something you already do for free: looking at what's on the shelf. You're sharing real, in-store signal about price and availability. In return, you earn rewards you own, not points a company can quietly devalue later.
Traditional loyalty programs extract your shopping data and keep the upside. Crush flips that. You contribute useful data, you get paid in assets you control, and nothing about that deal requires a minimum cash-out or an expiration date. The CRUSH token is what makes that ownership real.
Shelf scanning vs. receipt scanning
| Shelf scan | Receipt scan | |
|---|---|---|
| When | While you're still shopping | After checkout |
| What you capture | Shelf + price tags | Full receipt |
| Purchase needed? | No | Yes (you already bought) |
| Best for | Bonus earns mid-trip | Crediting the full basket |
Use both. They solve different moments. Stacking them is the point.
