Own What You Buy: Get Stock From Your Receipts (Sep 13–28)
For two weeks in Crush, scan a qualifying receipt and get up to $1 a day of that company’s stock via xStocks. Up to $10 total. Overnight. Yours to keep.
Product Updates
Most receipt apps end the same way… You scan, you wait, and you get points or a gift card you didn’t really want. Even worse, those gift cards are on some companies’ balance sheets as a liability. For the next two weeks, we are flipping the script by putting you on the other side of the equation: as a shareholder.
Own What You Buy runs from September 13 to the 28th. All you have to do is shop like you normally do by scanning qualifying receipts or using a linked card at qualifying brands. That'll get you up to $1 of that brand's stock per day and up to $10 over the next 2 weeks.
You get it in the form of xStocks by a company called Backed. They land right in your Crush mobile app wallet. They're yours to keep forever. They include dividend treatment where xStocks pays dividends, and when you're ready, you can trade it in for U.S. dollars, other stocks, and even crypto.
This is a limited-time campaign, not how Crush always works. Outside the window, Crush still rewards you with paths to cash, crypto, or stocks, and you will continue earning Crush Rewards throughout the campaign.
How Own What You Buy Works
- Simply scan a receipt from Walmart, McDonald's, Amazon, Exxon, or Chevron and more, or use a linked card at these brands.
- How much? Up to $1 of that company's stock per day, and up to $10 over the next 2 weeks.
- Stock arrives overnight. There's nothing to claim and it just shows up in your wallet when it's ready.
- Yours to keep. No points, and no gift card to chase. It's stock in your Crush Rewards mobile app wallet.
- And as always, you can trade them for USD or other stocks/crypto.
That's all there is to it. Shop, scan, wake up owning a little of what you bought.
Why xStocks beats points (and gift cards)
Receipt apps have trained us to expect a theater, points, miles, or gift cards for a store you weren't going to visit but now feel obligated to because you have $25 to spend there. This is a familiar concept to many people, and it's often not that useful.
At Crush, we've rethought this from a different perspective… when you buy from a public company, you're already funding that company. Every dollar you spend there flows through the companies Income Statement, Balance Sheet and eventually to their Earnings per Share. That means some small portion of YOUR purchases might end up as dividends the company pays out to shareholders like hedge-funds and pension funds all over the world. But you're still stuck with gift cards and points. That all changes for the next two weeks.
Own What You Buy flips that for the campaign window. You don’t only fund the brand. You get a small slice of their stock in your own wallet, as xStocks. That includes the stockholder side of the relationship, dividends included where xStocks pass them through. You are no longer a liability to the company, you are, in some sense, an owner of them.
Who this is for
If you're already scanning receipts in Crush, or looking for Fetch Rewards alternatives, this is a natural next step to earn a more fungible and useful reward.
You don't need to change how you shop. You don't need to chase a new category. You shop in the window, scan what qualifies, and the rest is automatic within the campaign rules. And don't worry, you'll keep earning your Crush Rewards
